OpenAI Stargate Abilene
Operational; Oracle Corporation is recorded as owning the AI hardware inside this site
Description quoted from Epoch AI Frontier Data Centers
The Stargate data center campus in Abilene Texas is expected to host OpenAI's largest compute cluster from the second half of 2025 through 2026. This is the first of several sites in the Stargate project, spanning the US and the globe. We have a variety of sources to estimate the capacity of this data center, from company announcements, to permit documents, to satellite imagery of air-cooled chillers.

Power comparison
590 MW is at the 99th percentile among the 310 operating AI Training records with a reported power figure. These represent 84% of the 369 operating AI Training records tracked; announced, under-construction and campus build-out figures are not ranked. The scale ends at the largest operating figure in this group, 1,276 MW.
- This record’s power figure is withheld from recorded-power totals so the campus counts once; operating totals count it, as the campus’s reviewed current deployment.
Curator’s working note
Part of campus Stargate Abilene (OpenAI / Oracle / Crusoe). This row's power capacity is withheld from recorded-power totals, which count the campus once at its canonical figure on Stargate Abilene (OpenAI/Oracle/SoftBank); operating totals count this row, under an editorial review, as the campus's current deployment. See the campus source-disagreement panel for every cited figure.
Methods and sources
Ownership roles
Title identifies the legal owner of the site; operation identifies who runs it. AI-hardware ownership follows the catalog’s attribution of the machines inside, whose owner may lease the facility.
Each role requires its own attribution. An operator named in a source supplies evidence of operation only.
Parent companies
Ownership checks start with each company named at the site and follow recorded parent relationships. A company holding several roles is checked once. Its linked company page lists the relationships and their sources; further parents may remain undocumented.
Level 1 identifies a company at the site, level 2 its parent, and each further level another parent. Export-control designations and government investments are assigned to the company concerned.
Missing values
Unrecorded roles remain blank. Findings whose company position is unresolved stay in the list with that position labelled unknown.
Publication limits
Subscription corporate data helps identify parent relationships and sovereign investments. Publication is limited to relationship classes and supporting public sources; licensed records, identifiers and values are withheld.
Epoch AI estimates capacity using satellite imagery, permits and corporate disclosures. Its catalog is the source for this site record.
Five records describe the Abilene campus at different scopes. Recorded totals use the 1,200 MW site figure from OpenAI’s Stargate announcement, which describes the announced site rather than the plant running today. Operating totals use Epoch’s current-deployment estimate instead; Epoch’s April 2026 analysis estimated four of the eight buildings operational. The announced cluster-phase figures of 240.24, 800.80 and 2,200 MW remain visible but are excluded from both totals. The archived source does not establish whether the phases are additive or cumulative. The 2,200 MW phase figure exceeds the 1,200 MW site figure and requires a site-level source to resolve the difference.
