Data & Citation

0 of 2 bundles have a minted DOI

Packaged datasets, documented to the column and citable by version.

Citation forms for the two packaged datasets, and the pattern for citing any number rendered on this site. Pick a format once and every bundle answers in it; printing this page includes all of them. The canonical author on every form is Gringras, David (David Gringras, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health).

Packaged datasets

Each bundle ships a versioned CSV, a JSON Schema, a data dictionary, methodology in Markdown, a Croissant JSON-LD descriptor and a SHA-256 checksum. Until Zenodo mints a DOI, the version and the checksum are the anchor. Together they identify the exact file you read, which a bare URL cannot do.

Numbers on a page

Pages that surface a derived number (cost per petaFLOP-day, the sovereign-AI exposure rollup, cascade propagation) have their own Cite panel, which emits a BibTeX entry shaped for an online source. The canonical form is below; replace the bracketed fields with the page’s title, its rendered as of date, its URL, and the date you read it.

@misc{scrutica_[page_slug]_[YYYY],
  author       = {Gringras, David and {Scrutica}},
  title        = {[Page title]},
  year         = {[YYYY]},
  note         = {As of [YYYY-MM-DD]; accessed [YYYY-MM-DD]},
  url          = {[https://scrutica.com/...]}
}

For the provenance chain behind a single value (which primary source produced it, and which derivation step applied) open Methodology and follow the per-section anchors: each names the source columns, the derivation and the citation chain for the numbers it covers. Where a published value was later corrected, the disclosure is permanent at Corrections, so a citation made against the earlier figure can be traced forward to what replaced it.

Identifiers and cadence

Zenodo mints a DOI per dataset version, under one stable concept DOI that resolves to the latest, so a citation made against an earlier release keeps resolving to that release as the data moves on. Depositions propagate onward to DataCite, OpenAlex and Semantic Scholar.

No bundle has a minted DOI yet, so every form above says in the identifier field that the version and SHA-256 are the anchor. A citation that drops a missing identifier silently is indistinguishable from one that never needed it. The checksum identifies the exact bytes you read, which a URL alone cannot. The forms are generated from the registry, so the moment a DOI lands every citation on this page changes with it and none of this copy needs editing.
