France combines public research computing with commercial cloud and data-centre projects. GENCI’s Jean Zay, operated by CNRS at IDRIS, has 1,456 H100, 416 A100 and 1,832 V100 GPUs. Mistral AI secured financing in March 2026 to acquire 13,800 GB300 GPUs for Bruyères-le-Châtel. SoftBank’s separate campus plan targets 3.1 GW in Hauts-de-France by 2031 as a first phase.

- ANR identifies a €2.5B national AI strategy budget under France 2030, which also funds research and training.
- The Jean Zay extension received a €40M grant and was inaugurated on 13 May 2025. The grant announcement does not itemize payments to suppliers.
- Mistral’s transaction adviser describes approximately $830M of financing for the acquisition of 13,800 NVIDIA GB300 GPUs. Availability of that specific cohort is unconfirmed. NVIDIA’s June 2025 plan for 18,000 Blackwell and Blackwell Ultra GPUs describes an earlier, broader deployment plan.
- Mistral AI, MGX, Bpifrance and NVIDIA announced a joint venture for a Paris-region campus in May 2025, targeting 1.4 GW. Construction was expected in the second half of 2026, with operations from 2028.
- SoftBank’s May 2026 plan proposes up to €75B and 5 GW in France. Its first phase specifies €45B for 3.1 GW at Dunkirk, Bosquel and Bouchain by 2031; these are planned investments. The €45B is included in the €75B.
