The Dutch AI Factory will provide computing and technical support for AI research and development in Groningen. Its €200M budget combines €70M from EuroHPC, €70M from the national government and €60M from Groningen/North Drenthe. The expertise centre was scheduled to begin in 2026 and the supercomputer to reach full capacity in 2027. Dutch users can apply for time on other EuroHPC systems while it is built. SURF also operates the existing Snellius system, whose GPU partitions contain 288 A100 and 352 H100 accelerators.
Data-quality caveats on this record · 3
- The NLAIF hardware tender opened on 11 March 2026 and closed on 30 April. It names EuroHPC as owner and Stichting NLAIF as the hosting consortium. The 2027 availability date is a target in the funding announcement.
- Snellius’s 640 GPUs come from SURF’s hardware inventory: 72 nodes with four A100s each and 88 nodes with four H100s each. These are installed Snellius accelerators; the planned Groningen machine has a separate procurement.
- The dollar figures convert the €200M project budget and the €130M Dutch public contribution at US$1.1613 per euro on 10 October 2025, SURF’s announcement date, from the Federal Reserve’s H.10 series distributed by FRED.
