Expanse is an NSF-funded supercomputer operated by the San Diego Supercomputer Center at UC San Diego and allocated through the ACCESS programme. Its GPU capacity is two partitions the operator documents separately: the original Expanse GPU nodes, 52 nodes with four NVIDIA V100 (32 GB SXM2) each, 208 GPUs; and the Expanse AI resource added under the NAIRR Pilot, 34 Dell XE9640 servers with four NVIDIA H100 each, 136 GPUs, which SDSC's 2024–2025 annual report describes as two compute units of 17 GPU nodes funded by a $5.3 million NSF supplement. The H100 variant and the AI resource's installation date are not stated by the operator.
